Quilter'sTote Bag on a Serger



Deep outer pockets display serger-unique quilt blocks - a folded pinwheel block on one side and a central band of serger-edged prairie points on the other. An inside pocket near the top keeps your small items from disappearing into the bottom of the bag and shoulder length handles make it easy to carry. Skills in this class include:
Rolled hem
Prairie points
Folded quilt block

Fabric (non-directional)

  • 3/8 yard Fabric A – pinwheel and inside pocket

  • 1 ¼ yard Fabric B –pinwheel, prairie points, lining

  • 3/8 yard Fabric C pinwheel center and frame, prairie points

  • 7/8 yard Fabric D – outside, handles

  • Craft size Batting (45” x 34” – like Warm N Natural)

  • Medium-weight woven fusible interfacing

    • 1 ¼ yard of 20-“ wide or 5/8 yard of 44” wide

 

Thread

  • 4 spools serger thread to blend with fabrics

  • 1 spool Sulky Blendables 30 wt. or 2 spools 40 wt. machine embroidery thread (Floriani)

Notions

  • Serger & manual

  • Serger piping foot

  • Chalk marker, wash away marker

  • Fray block (optional)

  • Wonder tape and/or water soluble glue stick

  • General sewing and serging supplies

    • Pins must be long with large heads

    • Wonder Clips (optional)

    • Double-eyed needle

CUTTING & FUSING GUIDE:

If you are unsure of how to cut accurately, bring your fabric to class; you can do it there. Cut AND LABEL the following:

  • See cutting chart (available at store) for fabrics and interfacing pieces

  • Batting:

    • One rectangle 11” x 10”

    • Two rectangles 11” x 14”

    • Two strips 5” x 37”

 

  • FUSE interfacing to the following pieces:

    • Fabric A two 4 ¼” x 9 ½” rectangles

    • Fabric B two 11” squares

    • Fabric C one 9 ½” square, four 1 ¾” x 9 ½” strips, four 1 ¾” x 12” strips

    • Fabric D two 3 ½” x 30” strips
