Bowl Cozies - Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels serves over 170 people in the Tanana Valley. Our goal at Northern Threads is to create a beautiful microwave bowl cozy for every single person!

Today, the average life expectancy is at a record high of 79 years. As we get older, even the most independent among us may experience physical declines or financial hardship that strips away our independence.
Meals on Wheels is designed specifically to meet the nutritional and social needs of seniors.

How it works:
You choose whether you would like to participate in a group setting or by sewing at home and bringing your donation into the store.

On Saturday, December 7 from 1-5 we will host an open sewing workshop. Monte will teach you how to construct a bowl cozy, so if you haven't made any before, you'll learn how fast and easy they are to make! If you can't make it to the workshop, stop in and pick up a free pattern, or use one of the many free patterns available on line.

All you need for one bowl cozy is 2-10 inch squares and 1 ten inch square of 100% cotton batting. We like to use cotton thread for the cozies also. We will have lots of 10" squares and cotton batting for you to use also.

  • Three fun sewing related prizes.
  • One grand prize - a $50 Northern Threads gift card!
You will earn one chance to win for each cozy you contribute.

Please turn in your completed cozies by Monday, December 16.
