Alaskan Patterns by Lois | A Tradition Since 1951
Learn to create your own traditional Alaskan kuspuk using Alaskan Patterns by Lois, a family tradition passed down through generations. This hands-on class is designed for beginner to intermediate sewists and will guide you step-by-step through constructing a beautiful, comfortable kuspuk.
Students will learn how to work with the pattern, select sizing, cut fabric, assemble the garment, and complete the distinctive details that make a kuspuk unique. Along the way, you’ll gain practical sewing techniques and confidence that you can use on future projects.
Come enjoy the tradition of Alaskan sewing while creating a one-of-a-kind kuspuk you’ll be proud to wear!

| Instructor Bio: | Michelle Amstrup is the owner of Alaskan Patterns and granddaughter of founder Lois Tapp, who began creating her iconic Alaskan parkas in Fairbanks in 1952. Michelle joined the family business in 2012 and continues a tradition of Alaskan sewing and craftsmanship spanning more than 70 years. Through hands-on classes and workshops, Michelle shares the techniques passed down through her family, teaching students to create beautiful, functional parkas, kuspuks, and other uniquely Alaskan garments. She is passionate about preserving these time-honored skills and helping a new generation of makers carry Alaska’s sewing traditions forward. |
