Learn to create your own winter parka using the time-honored Alaska Patterns by Lois. This hands-on class is taught by Michelle Amstrup, Lois’ granddaughter, who will guide you through the process of constructing a beautiful, functional parka while sharing techniques passed down through the family.
Designed for beginner to intermediate sewists, the class includes approximately 18–20 hours of instruction over four weekends. You’ll work step-by-step through your parka construction, with plenty of time for demonstrations, questions, and individual help.
Class Dates: November 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th
10AM - 2PM Daily
Instructor: Michelle Amstrup
Class Fee: $180 per person
Students will also meet with Michelle before class for assistance and pre-cutting instructions. Date and time to be announced.

| Instructor Bio: | Michelle Amstrup is the owner of Alaskan Patterns and granddaughter of founder Lois Tapp, who began creating her iconic Alaskan parkas in Fairbanks in 1952. Michelle joined the family business in 2012 and continues a tradition of Alaskan sewing and craftsmanship spanning more than 70 years. Through hands-on classes and workshops, Michelle shares the techniques passed down through her family, teaching students to create beautiful, functional parkas, kuspuks, and other uniquely Alaskan garments. She is passionate about preserving these time-honored skills and helping a new generation of makers carry Alaska’s sewing traditions forward. |
