ABOUT THE VIRTUAL ZOOM CLASS

Taking a virtual class at Northern Threads means your commute is short, no car required and no machine and gear to haul around and yes, you can even arrive in slippers if you choose. Our instructor will be there to answer questions and offer guidance along the way. Enjoy the company of your fellow students, sharing tips, ideas, and conversation while working on your project.

WHAT YOU NEED
All you need is a mobile device such as a tablet or computer with a webcam, mic, and an internet connection along with any required class supplies.

SETUP SUGGESTIONS

We don’t recommend using a smartphone for class if possible due to the size of the screen because it can be difficult to see details clearly on a small screen.

If you are using a computer, it’s a good idea to test your webcam and mic prior to class to ensure it's working properly. You may want to consider using an external webcam, so you have the flexibility to move the camera around to show your work when help is needed.

Extra lighting, such as a table lamp directed on your work area can be helpful when you share with others.

TIME ZONE
Our classes are scheduled using the Alaska time zone. Zone Code for Summer AKDT | Winter AKST. You can use this Time Zone Converter to see what time the class would be in your area.

GETTING STARTED

Before joining a Northern Threads class using Zoom meeting on a computer or mobile device, you can download the Zoom app from the Download Center. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click the join link.

You will receive an email prior to the class with a link to join the class.

Each meeting has a unique 9, 10, or 11-digit number called a meeting ID that will be required to join a Zoom meeting

Open the Zoom desktop client.

Join a meeting using one of these methods:

Click Join a Meeting. If you want to join without signing in or Sign in to Zoom then click Join.

Enter the meeting ID number and your display name.

If you're signed in, change your name if you don't want your default name to appear.

If you're not signed in, enter a display name.

Select if you would like to connect audio and/or video and click Join and that's all.

If you get disconnected during a class session, simply repeat the steps to join a meeting and you’ll reconnect with the class in progress.

REGISTRATION

Please register early and order any required supplies so they arrive in time for class day.

Some classes require advance preparation as shown in the details, so please make sure to get your materials early to allow yourself time.

Once you have registered for a class you'll receive an email the day prior to the class date with details for joining the class.

Cancellation: You must cancel 72 hours prior to class to receive a refund. Of course, if we cancel a class, the fee will be refunded.
